Book Timeline 1990 - 1999

1990s : Having worked as a photojournalist for three years, Singh is unable to reconcile herself to ethical dilemmas inherent to the field. She turns to taking family portraits and portraits of empty spaces.

1992 : Singh meets Walter Keller at the Scalo bookshop in Zurich. He tells Singh that he has no doubt that she will become a good photographer but cautions her against making books and exhibitions as they will only deplete her energy. He suggests that she focus on building her archive instead.

1997 : Singh receives the Andrea Frank Foundation grant from Robert Frank. This allows her to continue taking family portraits and to gift the families prints of her photographs.
